On a formulation of the equation for the transverse dynamics of a relativistic electron beam propagating in the ion focused regime

Abstract

A formulation of the equation for the relativistic electron beam centroid dynamics in the case of a ion hose instability for the situation of the beam propagating in the ion plasma channel in gas — plasma rarefied background (ion focused regime) is derived. It is assumed that this instability are investigated in the linear stage only. It is assumed that the electron plasma fraction not fully removed from a beam’s volume. For this case in the derived equation the stabilizing and destabilizing terms are formulated. Moreover, the physics factors that determine this terms are defined. Refs 12.
