The present survey describes the contribution of St Petersburg mathematicians to the theory of linear, classical and algebraic groups. The second part is devoted to the publications by Suslin of the 1970s and the early 1980s, in the areas of classical algebraic K-theory and the theories of linear and classical groups. Also, we describe the general context of these works, state some of the most important results by Suslin himself, and his students, and some of the most closely related follow-ups and subsequent results.Downloads
