Author Guidelines
I. Rules of paper publication
1.1. The journal publishes original, not previously published researches in the field of mathematics, mechanics or astronomy as well as papers of mathematical nature in the field of management, computer engineering and informatics.
Authors send papers prepared according to rules of the journal via the website https://math-mech-astr-journal.spbu.ru. For submission of a manuscript via the website the author must register.
1.2. An article can be submitted to the journal in Russian or English.
An article presented in Russian by a decision of the editorial board can be recommended for translation and publication in the journal Vestnik St. Petersburg University. Mathematics.
If an article is presented in English, this excludes the possibility of its publication in the journal Vestnik St. Petersburg University. Mathematics.
All questions concerning submission of a manuscript should be sent to vestnik_mm@spbu.ru.
1.3. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are reviewed. The process of reviewing is regulated by the Peer Review Guidelines.
The decision on publication (or rejection) of a paper is made by the editorial board of the journal after a review and a discussion of a paper. The decision of the editorial board is final.
1.4. A publication of a paper is free of charge.
II. Completeness and form of representation of a paper
2.1. Obligatory elements of a publication in Russian are:
— UDC index (see http://teacode.com/online/udc/);
— MSC code (see http://www.ams.org/msc/msc2010.html);
— title of the paper in Russian and English;
— summary (200–300 words) and keywords (5–10 words) in Russian and English;
— text of the paper (including introduction, main part and conclusion);
— list of references in Russian;
— references in English;
— if the paper contains information on financing — translation of these data into English;
— information about authors:
— full name in Russian and English;
— the full postal address of the affiliated institute with index in Russian and English;
— academic degree, rank, position in Russian and English (departments and administrative positions are not specified);
— relevant e-mail;
— ORCID;
— phone number (it will not be published in the journal, it is necessary for communication with editor).
2.2. Obligatory elements of the publication in English are:
— UDC index (see http://teacode.com/online/udc/);
— MSC code (see http://www.ams.org/msc/msc2010.html);
— title of the paper in Russian and English;
— summary (200–300 words) and keywords (5–10 words) in Russian and English;
— text of the paper (including introduction, main part and conclusion);
— references in English;
— information about authors:
— full name, with interpretation of initials, in Russian and English;
— full postal address of the affiliated institute with index in Russian and English;
— academic degree, position (departments and administrative positions are not specified);
— relevant e-mail;
— phone number (it will not be published in the journal, it is necessary for communication with editor).
2.3. Maximum volume of a paper, including introduction, tables, figures and list of references, should not exceed 12 pages in the format specified in Section 3.1 below. Minimum volume of a paper is 5 pages.
Papers exceeding 12 pages, are accepted for publication in exceptional cases, on special decision of the editorial board.
2.4. All elements of the text of a paper are transferred by one tex-file and the PDF-file corresponding to it. Names of the files must contain the surname of the author (or the first coauthor) in English. Files must contain all obligatory elements of a publication (see Section 2.1).
2.5. Files of figures are submitted in electronic form. One file is one figure in the eps-format. Names of the files with figures must contain the surname of the author (or the first coauthor) in English and the serial number of the figure, for example, “Ivanov.Fig.1.eps”.
Figures can either be monochrome or in color (if necessary).
III. Paper's requirements (TeX, PDF)
3.1. Text of a paper
A paper is submitted to the editorial board in electronic form in the LATEX2e format in Windows CP1251 encoding, \documentclass (amsart) or article.
Font and line spacing are by default (10 pt, single-spaced). Length of a line is 13.7 cm, height is 20.25 cm, font color is black, numbering of formulas is automatic, on the right in brackets, units of measure are given in SI.
It is permitted to use italics, semibold italics, straight semibold. It is necessary to avoid compulsory formatting of the text with the use of \break, \newline, etc. It is necessary to avoid automatic numbering of Theorems, Statements, etc.
The wording of Theorems, Lemmas, Statements, etc. have to be typed in italics (except formulas, figures and punctuation marks), and the words “Theorem”, “Lemma”, “Definition”, “Remark”, etc. in a bold-face type.
For the papers in Russian: a paper should not contain terminology in foreign languages, if there is a standard translation of terms in Russian. Surnames and initials of foreign authors should be given in Russian transcription. Nearby in parentheses surnames and initials are specified in original writing (if in Latin) or in Latin transcription.
3.2. Summary and keywords
Volume of a summary has to conform to the requirements of the publishing materials (200–300 words).
A summary has to represent a uniform paragraph, correspond to the content of the paper, reflect main conclusions, be self-sufficient when read separately from the paper.
A summary should not contain neither numbered/marked lists nor bibliographic references. Use of abbreviations (except well-known) and formulas is not welcome.
Among keywords there should not be difficult phrases and sentences.
3.3. Tables and figures
Tables must be prepared with the use of standard environments of table or longtable.
Figures must be prepared in the eps-format and inserted into paper by standard means of LATEX2e. Illustrations must have appropriate quality, resolution, not lower than 300 dpi.
The size of fonts in figures has to correspond to the size of the main text. All digits on coordinate axes have to be in straight fonts. Figures, designating curves, must be given in the italics.
Figures (tables) are numbered with Arab figures. If there is only one figure (table) in the paper, it is not numbered.
Inclusion of names of tables and captions under figures is possible. In this case all tables must have names and all figures must have captions.
References in the text of a paper on tables and figures are obligatory. Footnotes should not contain references to figures and tables. If borrowing illustrations, it is necessary to specify a source.
IV. Bibliographic description
4.1. General requirements
Authors bear personal responsibility for the content of the list of references, including, for all names, the output data.
Citing two or more sources at one number and also the same source at different numbers is not permitted.
It is necessary to avoid references to theses and abstracts of theses.
Numbering of references in the text is given with Arab figures in square brackets and in the order of their emergence in the text, including in introduction.
It is necessary to avoid automatic numbering of references in the text of the paper and also of the list of references.
If the reference has a DOI, it is specified at the end of the literary description.
For the papers in Russian the list of references is submitted in Russian and English.
For the papers in English the list of references is submitted in English only.
4.2. Rules of execution of the list of references in English
The bibliographic description in English is given with the use of only the Latin alphabet, for the European languages diacritical signs are allowed.
Surnames and initials of authors of Russian references are given in Latin transcription.
Surnames and initials of authors of foreign references are given only in original writing or in standard Latin transcription.
When using the references translated to Russian the original source is specified in References.
In case the source is published in a language that uses a system of writing not on the basis of Latin (Cyrillics, hieroglyphs, etc.), the indication of language of the publication is added to the description: (In Russian), (In Chinese), etc. Language is not specified in other cases.
4.3. Examples of execution of references in the list of references in Russian and English
